        物理化学是从研究化学现象和物理现象之间的相互联系入手来探求化学运动中具有普遍性的基本规律的一门学科。物理化学是化学中的一个学科，是化学科学的理论基础。物理化学运用数学、物理学等基础科学的理论和实验方法，研究化学变化包括相变化和pVT变化中的平衡规律和速率规律，以及这些规律与物质微观结构的关系。
