  • Part Three: Watching for Travel
  • The primary purpose of ordering wine is to ensure you get a suitablepairing between your entree and the wine. Do not be afraid to ask thewaiter or sommelier for advice.
  • Verify that it is in fact the wine that you order not just the name of the wine, but also the vintage. The same wine can be different prices depending onthe vintage.
  • Once the waiter shows you the wine and you agree that this is the wine youin fact selected. They will go ahead and uncork the wine and he shoots upthe cork on the table. Now, don’t go and smell the cork as it’s not going togive you any value, it is just going to smell like cork, but what you can dois to look at the cork and deduce whether or not, the cork is tinted or thewine maybe tinted based on cork discoloration.
  • Swirl, sniff the wine, and taste the wine. The point of tasting the wine isjust to ensure that it is not spoiled or it’s corked. Once you tell the waiterthat yes you accept the wine, the waiter will go clock wise around the tableto your party and fill each person’s glass, ladies first. As the host, yourglass will be topped off last.Brief information from the video

Part Seven: Additional Know-how American Food 美国菜

第25页:饮食反映文化身份

  • What we eat reflects who we are--as people and as a culture. When you think about what is "American food". At first youmight think the answer is easy as pie. To many people,American food means hamburgers, hot dogs, fried chickenand pizza. If you have a "sweet tooth," you might even thinkof apple pie or chocolate chip cookies. It's true that Americansdo eat those things. But are those the only kind of food youcan find in America?
  • Except for Thanksgiving turkey, it's hard to find a typical"American" food. The United States is a land of immigrants. So Americans eat food from many different countries. Whenpeople move to America, they bring their cooking styles withthem. That's why you can find almost every kind of ethnicfood in America. In some cases, Americans have adoptedfoods from other countries as favorites. Americans loveItalian pizza, Mexican tacos and Chinese egg rolls. But theAmerican version doesn't taste quite like the original.

第26页:美国各地区的饮食特色

As with any large country, the U.S.A hasseveral distinct regions. Each region boasts itsown special style of food. In the South youcan enjoy country-style cooking. If youjourney through Louisiana, you can try somespicy Cajun cuisine. In New England you cantaste sample savory seafood dishes. Whiletraveling through the Midwest, "thebreadbasket of the nation," you may enjoydelicious baked goods. In the Southwest youcan try some tasty Tex-Mex treats. Then youcan finish your food tour in the PacificNorthwest with some gourmet coffee.

第27页:美式快餐与快节奏生活

  • Americans living at a fast pace often just "grab a quick bite."Fast food restaurants offer people on the run everything fromfried chicken to fried rice. Microwave dinners and instant foodsmake cooking at home a snap. Of course, one of the mostcommon quick American meals is sandwich. If it can fit betweentwo slices of bread, Americans probably make a sandwich out ofit. Peanut butter and jelly is an all-time American favorite.
  • American culture is a good illustration of the saying "you arewhat you eat." Americans represent a wide range of backgroundsand ways of thinking. The variety of foods in the U.S.A. reflectsthe diversity of personal tastes. The food may be international orregional. Sometimes it's fast, and sometimes it's not so fast. Itmight be junk food, or maybe it's natural food. In any case, thestyle is all-American.
